Gwent Goes Public!

Still one of the best single player games on the market at the moment, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt had an ace up its sleeve in the guise of one of the best card based minigames since Triple Triad! Gwent distracted and destroyed the noblest intentions of a certain White Wolf of Riviera for many a person’s playthrough in favour of sitting in a smokey tavern with ne’er do wells and miscreants to outmaneuver and best his opponent over the card table in Gwent!

As with any card based minigame that reaches the lofty heights of “a tangible and veritable distraction from the main game”, Gwent is defined by two di-opposed traits that perfectly work together symbiotically: Its simplicity and it’s depth...

Red Dead Redemption 2 – Release Window & Screenshots

There are few no video game developers that command as much respect and attention as Rockstar Games. With it’s stellar output and insane budget, Grand Theft Auto V is a great example of what happens when everything comes together correctly and receives the overwhelming critical and peer based reception that it did so receive. And that’s what they achieved during the last generation, many and more of us have been eagerly awaiting what they can do with the current generation’s Hardware.

But we’ll have to wait a little longer, unfortunately! Previously, the rough release date has been pushed back somewhat...

Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility Sale!

For full details of pricing, head on over to Majornelson’s blog by clicking the link that says “I like video games“.

There are dozens upon dozens of items in the sale, some great games, such as Red Dead, Rayman Legends & Origins and some meh games (I’ll be polite and not highlight those). But there is one game on there… One game better than all the others. The best online FPS I have played in my life. And given my predilection for teamwork-heavy online FPS games with a depth beyond the Qattara Depression and an unmatched system of balance yet to be bettered… This is the best game I have played in my life...

Overwatch – Competitive Season 4 Coming to an End!

Season 4 of Overwatch’s Competitive Mode has been causing highs and lows, jubilation and tribulation, pain and promotions since the 28th February. The Triple Tank Meta is still very much alive (although the nerf to Ana’s Biotic Grenade tried to put it in the dirt), and the bizarrely brilliant updates to Lucio and the neew Tank Orisa have probably been the most noticeable changes to this Season.

Lylirra [Community Manager] has provided us, through Blizzard’s forums, a little more information regarding the end of this rollercoaster of a season. As well as a little information regarding the (very quickly) upcoming Season 5.

Season 4 will officially end on Sunday, May 28 at 5:00 p.m. PDT (or Monday, May 29 at 00:00 UTC)...

Accessory Kit coming for Nintendo Switch

There are not currently a great deal of Official accessories and peripheries out for Nintendo’s newest addition to the hardware and handheld market. You may be able to pick up wheels for Mario Kart, plugs, charging stations and carry cases, but overall the console is still bereft of the kind of influx of additional gear that makes life a little easier for the average gamer.

Nintendo’s announcement that there is an accessory kit on its way isn’t going to turn that all around, only time will do that. And, if I’m honest, I’d be surprised if there is anyone truly excited for this. But it is news! Maybe not great news, but news none the less: 23rd June will see the release of an accessory kit that includes a Switch Dock, an AC Adaptor and a HDMI cable.

Pricing has yet to be officially confirm...

Overwatch Ascends to a “Billion Dollar” Franchise!

Overwatch has garnered a lot of love and attention since long before it even released, with its marvellous mix of genius marketing, its wildly inclusive roster of colourful characters spanning the globe and being the product of one of the best game developers out there: Blizzard.

“On that day, I felt so Alive”
– Widowmaker

There are a few times when certain games gain popularity and critical acclaim far beyond what it seems they should earn for what they offer… And then there are times when a bit of news bubbles to the surface that just makes you want to applaud your fellow gamers for supporting something that so very much deserves supporting.

Such news has filtered to the surface recently regarding a game that some (me) perceive as the single best online game thus far this generation: Ov...

Four New Entries to the Video Game Hall of Fame!

The Strong National Museum of Play have announced four new entries to be honoured into the Video Game Hall of Fame!

2017 sees the inclusion of:

The original Donkey Kong

The legendary handheld RPGs Pokemon Red & Blu Green

The friendship destroying Street Fighter II

And finally, the console FPS defining Halo: Combat Evolved

Any knowledgable gamer knows each of these games and likely understands their place in history. Their place in the hearts of gamers. And likely their well-earned place in any Gaming Related Hall of Fame… What we may not know, though, is how it took this damn long for Pokemon or Donkey Kong to get in there, busy week or something?!

Play The Division for Free from May 4th – 8th!

One rather grand addition to this online and utterly connected gaming generation has been the advent of “Free Game Trials”. For a limited time, you get full, unfettered and complete access to the whole of the game. Any earned achievements and saved data are stored safely should you choose to pick up the game later down the line. This gives gamers a great opportunity to try as much of the game as they’re able to (within the time limit), rather than the typical affair of a couple of levels packed into a crudely cut together and called a ‘Demo’.

Next up on the “Free Game Trial” offerings coming to the Xbox One, Playstation Network and uPlay is a personal favourite of mine and one of 2016’s surprise hits: Tom Clancy’s The Division...

New Addition to the Nintendo DS Family Coming July 28th!

Since it’s release way back in 2005, the Nintendo DS has had a number of successful revisions and re-releases, each tweaking the design for one purpose or another. Since its first release back in 2005, the versions and releases we have seen have been:

The Original DS Series

  • Original – 2005
  • Lite – 2007
  • DSi – 2009
  • DSi XL – 2010

3DS Revision

  • 3DS – 2011
  • 3DS XL –
  • New 3DS – 2012
  • New 3DS XL – 2012
  • 2DS – 2013
  • It has been about four years since the last revision of Nintendo’s flagship handheld console did away with the eponymous third dimension to the screen, as well as the beloved clam shell design, in an attempt to go after a younger market. While the 2DS may not have set the market aflame, the impact that it did make was strong enough for Ninty to give it another breath of the wild life de...
