Nintendo’s use of “Nintendo Directs” can often be just cause for excitement and jubilation at times, especially when they have released a new console in the last few months and the gaming community is on tenterhooks to know: WHAT’S NEXT FROM NINTENDO?!
Yesterday’s correspondence has given us a much clearer idea as to what to expect over the coming months for one of their most universally successful series across the board: Pokémon.
This Nintendo Direct was comprised of four main Pokémon related announcements:
- Pokken Tournament DX – Switch
Pokken Tournament released for the Wii U a couple of years ago now to relatively decent praise and feedback. The fighting game formula was seemingly a big winner when given a pretty Pokémon sheen...
The dust has settled to a calm on the release Nintendo’s newest hybrid hardware, the Switch, and following the exciting release of the hardware, the future of the console now lies squarely in the hands of its software. The games make the system, not the other way around!
A couple of big name titles are already on the system, with the likes of the almighty Breathe of the Wild and the Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 setting the trend, hopefully, for the rest of the year. Other games have been announced to be on their way sooner (Monster Hunter XX) or later (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) and this is all for the best. The Switch needs as much decent, well produced software to be thrown at it as possible if it is to avoid the problems of it’s predecessor: The Wii U.
With that in mind, another announce... more
Still one of the best single player games on the market at the moment, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt had an ace up its sleeve in the guise of one of the best card based minigames since Triple Triad! Gwent distracted and destroyed the noblest intentions of a certain White Wolf of Riviera for many a person’s playthrough in favour of sitting in a smokey tavern with ne’er do wells and miscreants to outmaneuver and best his opponent over the card table in Gwent!
As with any card based minigame that reaches the lofty heights of “a tangible and veritable distraction from the main game”, Gwent is defined by two di-opposed traits that perfectly work together symbiotically: Its simplicity and it’s depth... more
few no video game developers that command as much respect and attention as Rockstar Games. With it’s stellar output and insane budget, Grand Theft Auto V is a great example of what happens when everything comes together correctly and receives the overwhelming critical and peer based reception that it did so receive. And that’s what they achieved during the last generation, many and more of us have been eagerly awaiting what they can do with the current generation’s Hardware.
But we’ll have to wait a little longer, unfortunately! Previously, the rough release date has been pushed back somewhat... more
Since it’s release way back in 2005, the Nintendo DS has had a number of successful revisions and re-releases, each tweaking the design for one purpose or another. Since its first release back in 2005, the versions and releases we have seen have been:
The Original DS Series
- Original – 2005
- Lite – 2007
- DSi – 2009
- DSi XL – 2010
- 3DS – 2011
- 3DS XL –
- New 3DS – 2012
- New 3DS XL – 2012
- 2DS – 2013
It has been about four years since the last revision of Nintendo’s flagship handheld console did away with the eponymous third dimension to the screen, as well as the beloved clam shell design, in an attempt to go after a younger market. While the 2DS may not have set the market aflame, the impact that it did make was strong enough for Ninty to give it another breath of

VR is here and it finally works as smoothly as we have all dreamed! Sony have splashed out the big bucks to ensure they are the Alpha and Omega when it comes to Console VR Domination! But the perfect hardware means little without a great stream of software incoming.
Sony look to be aware of this very basic business acumen and have today released a story trailer for the upcoming immersive offering: Farpoint. Could be something to keep an eye tracker on!

Set ten million years in the past, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is generating a fair amount of buzz around it at the moment. The first game from Patrice Desilets’ Panache Digital Games. Patrice Desilets is likely best known for his work creating the Assassin’s Creed series a decade(!) ago.
The teaser trailer itself is rather stunning; atmospheric and enticing. Showing a dark and foreboding, green Garden of Eden, the game hints at a primal lasciviousness and openness that would easily rival the recent Farcry Primal, and may even give Horizon Zero Dawn a run for its money, provided it is given a *lot* of polish and… and… I take that back, Horizon Zero Dawn isn’t going to be bettered anytime soon... more
